Difference between Chandeliers & Pendants

Chandelier Fixture One of the most well-known and beloved light fixtures is the chandelier. Most people associate them with giant ballrooms, massive rooms, and lighting that makes a grand statement. On the other hand, its lesser-known cousin, the pendant light fixture, is slowly gaining popularity amongst the design-savvy. While related, there is a difference between the two. Pardon the pun, but we’re about to shed some light, and information, on pendant lights and chandeliers.

Pendant Lighting FixturesBoth pendant lighting and chandelier lighting have been around for millennia. Pendant lighting is any light fixture that is suspended from the ceiling, regardless of design. While chandelier light is also characterized by its suspension from the ceiling, the difference lies in their style and design. Chandelier lighting used to consist of candles, explaining the traditional look and shape of today’s chandeliers. Another notable difference is their suspension systems. Pendant light fixtures hang from a single cord and chain with usually one light. On the other hand, chandeliers, while also suspending by one electrical cord, provide layered light from a branched system, allowing multiple lights to suspend from a single light fixture.
